We love to teach beginning dance
classes. Our students have taken the first step by enrolling in a dance
class. We want to ensure that they have a fun, positive experience.
We want them to feel successful while they build their confidence. We
want them to see what a great activity, what a great hobby that dancing is.
Patti's Dance Tips
I would like to share some dance tips
that apply to most kinds of dancing:
-
Be open to enjoying the learning
process, understanding that there will be challenges and maybe frustrations to
work through.
-
Take a weekly dance class and
practice, or better yet, go to a dance once a week. The sooner you
practice after a class, the more you'll remember.
-
Remember that it takes time to learn to dance. It
will be a gradual process. Allow yourself as much time as you need. (I
think of it as life-long learning).
-
The foundation of every dance is the rhythm.
Getting the dance's rhythm into your "muscle memory" so it's automatic
will allow you to concentrate more on leading and following techniques.
-
Shoes - Can you pivot? Or do they stick to the
floor? Wearing shoes that stick to the floor will make smooth dancing
more difficult and you can hurt your knees when turning. Leather soled
shoes allow you to pivot. Also, you can get dance shoes with suede soles
or dance sneakers that allow you to turn freely.
-
The more people you dance with the faster you'll learn to
dance well. So even if you have a regular partner, it's a good idea to
rotate partners during group classes. You'll learn from them and they'll
learn from you.
We're available for private lessons at our
